Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): Momentum Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project with its empanelled NGO partner Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN) commemorated the International Women’s Day under the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’ in six districts on March 8.
The project felicitated women vaccine champions to the following five: Florence Data Entry Operator of District Hospital Longleng district; Akheli ANM of Sheyipu Sub Centre Zunheboto district; T Jephoi ANM of UPHC Tuensang district; Talirenla ASHA Co-Ordinator of Mangkolemba-1, Mokokchung district; and T Apila Sangtam, President of Akehda Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang Kiphire district.
A press release received here stated that to mark the occasion, six districts carried out different activities which included women from different walks of life where resource persons stressed on how a woman’s leadership can make a difference across the globe and how it can progress towards gender equality and women empowerment. They spoke on the significance of the day citing that it celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all around the world.
Gender inequality and discrimination are rampant in our societies, and most of the time, women are victims of them. To fight these gender biases and to bring attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women, International Women’s Day is celebrated. It has become a forum to raise awareness and galvanize change in society.
The speakers also highlighted that it is of utmost importance that women should participate in decision making, to encourage education for girls and to create more awareness on women’s health and the different facilities they can avail.
The project team in Mokokchung district commemorated the International Women’s Day with ASHAs from different blocks at CMO conference hall with Chief Medical Officer, Dr Limatola Aier and Ms Rose Communication Officer, John Snow India as the resource persons. Dr Limatola while delivering a short speech encouraged the ASHAs saying that the strength of a woman is incomparable as they are strong, tolerant and can overcome any obstacles that come their way. These qualities of a woman can be optimized in the workplace especially in the healthcare sector where constant persuasion and compassion is needed.
Rose spoke on how the learning of COVID-19 vaccination can be implemented in routine immunization, through extensive awareness and sensitization, house visits, identifying the due dose beneficiaries, conducting Interpersonal Communication with parents who are hesitant to get their child vaccinated, involving the stakeholders in different platforms.
Kiphire district organized the programme in collaboration with the District Horticulture Department, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan and Piramal Foundation. The programme was attended by the women organization leaders, church leaders and youth leaders with 58 participants with Temjenna Jamir Subject Matter Specialist KVK and Seroba Sangtam Horticulture Department Kiphire as the resource persons. The programme was facilitated by Akumnaro District Coordinator ISRN.
Peren district commemorated Women’s Day at Tening town market complex with women organization where 37 of them attended the program with Dinbiliu and Martha Dukru as the resource persons.
Tuensang district celebrated with the students of Loyem Memoral High School with 105 participants with Esther Graduate Teacher as the resource person, the programme was facilitated by Lirenthung Kithan, District Coordinator ISRN
Zunheboto district commemorated International Women’s Day at Sheyipu village with 63 participants from the village community with Egumsing Nsarangbe State Project Manager John Snow India and Vitoli DPM as the resource persons.
Phek district commemorated the International Women’s Day at Thetsumi village in collaboration with Thetsumi village women society where 262 participants attended the program with Vechulou Kanuo as the resource person.
