Nagaland: GBs urged to use wisdom to usher peace, unity

Western Angami GB Union celebrates 25 years

On completion of 25 glorious years since its formation in 1999, the Western Angami GB Union (WAGBU) today celebrated its silver jubilee at Sechü Zubza Village Council Hall. Presently, there are 41 GBs in 14 villages under WAGBU.

Gracing the celebration as the chief guest, Mhiesizokho Zinyü, ex-president Angami Public Organization (APO) Zinyü, called upon the GBs to exercise good behaviour and wisdom to usher peace, prosperity and unity among the people.

Commending their role in upholding Naga customary law, he also stressed on the need to stay updated with legal provisions in justice delivery system. The GBs have been assisting the government and administrative machinery in maintaining law and order in the state, he said.

Further, Zinyü called upon the people to pay due respect to GBs for their contribution towards social well being.

Sharing greetings, Angami Public Organization (APO) President Razouvotuo Chatsu informed that GBs institution has been existing 184 years in Nagaland. Maintaining that GBs are custodians of the rich cultural heritage and guardians of customary practices, he called upon the GBs from Western Angami area to be more courageous and magnify their commitment to take the society forward.

Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) President Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, All Angami GBs Association president Thepfukedo Kuotsu and others also spoke on the occasion and complimented WAGBU for attaining 25 years.

The celebration witnessed the presence of officials from Nagaland GB Federation, Northern Angami GB Union, Chakhroma GB Union, All Angami GB Union, Kohima District GB Union, Southern Angami GB Union, Tenyimi Union Nagaland, Angami Youth Organization, Western Angami Women Organization, Western Angami Students’ Union, Western Angami Gazetteed Officers Krotho, Chümoukedima District GB Union, Dimapur District GB Union, Western Angami ‘D’ Public Organization, Village Councils and VDBs.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by WAGBU president Vilazosie Punyü while welcome address was delivered by Neigwetuo Mor, secretary souvenir committee. Neithovilie Miasalhou, convenor finance committee briefed the history of WAGBU. Acknowledgement to the dignitaries and well wishers was made by Lhouvisielie Sano, convenor, presentation committee. Catechist Medolepra Rino, Catholic Church Sechü Zubza invoked God’s blessings. Cultural troupe from Mezoma presented folk song. Vote of thanks was proposed by WAGBU vice president R.C. Angami.
