SHARAD PAWAR steps down from the airplane’s staircase to inaugurate the North East Agri Expo at Dimapur today. The Union Minister for Agriculture is in for a pleasant surprise. The vibrant colours of Nagaland and other North Eastern states have been intermingled creatively to present a picture-perfect agricultural scenario. A day before the unveiling of the extravaganza, participants were seen applying the final brush strokes. Government functionaries of different capacities were also seen inspecting the works and giving comments where applicable.

Nagaland Home Minister Thenucho was taking a look at the bovine specimens put up for display when The Morung Express caught up with him. His wife was with him. Seeking perfection, the Chozuba representative said, “There is still room for improvement.” He was replying to the query on whether he was satisfied with the arrangements. Thenucho was of the view that such events should be staged annually.

Secretaries and directors of several government departments were also making their presence felt by ascertaining that their departments’ respective stalls were looking handsome. Horticulture Secretary Thangi Mannen, all dressed in white, was busy supervising activities at the horticulture hut which is alive with flowers of different varieties. With flowers from different states of the region being showcased, the stall is a must-visit for housewives who have a penchant for flowers.

To give the haryali hi haryali feel, various vegetables and fruits have been implanted at the venue at 4th Mile, Dimapur. Cabbages and tomatoes have been ‘fitted’ next to strawberry plants. Food stalls and restaurants are already raking in the moolah with curious visitors already thronging the village much before the inauguration. A number of conference halls have also been erected.

Parking arrangements have been taken care of. Men of the 11 Indian Reserve Battalion will be assuring visitors of security.
