“This Meet is not just an event, but a celebration of dedication, skill, and the unyielding spirit of our police force,” Governor La Ganesan stated today, addressing the official inauguration of the 40th edition of the Nagaland Police Duty-Cum-Sports Meet 2024.

A total of 34 police units are participating in the biennial event of the State police, at NAPTC Stadium, Chümoukedima.

Ganesan also lauded the police force’s commitment to excel in both duty and sports, noting that it serves as an inspiration to all.
Dwelling on the various events and competitions scheduled at the meet, the Governor stated: “Be it in the fields of athletics or duty competitions—the values of integrity, teamwork, and resilience must come to the fore.”

He further noted that the event will vividly showcase the physical prowess, temperaments, as well as the sporting spirit of the police personnel—qualities essential in fulfilling their duties to maintain peace and justice.

“It will also provide an opportunity to foster camaraderie, unity, and shared joy beyond the confines of your daily responsibilities,” he added.

In this connection, the Governor urged all participants to make full use of this opportunity to enhance these core values, which are essential in the police profession.

He also called for acknowledging the contributions of the families and loved ones of the policemen and policewomen.
“In times of both challenges and moments of triumph, the unwavering support and dedication you provide to our dedicated policemen and policewomen is invaluable,” he opined, building the foundation of a “strong and humane police force.”

Governor Ganesan also exhorted the participants to compete in the events with a spirit of fairness, enthusiasm, and camaraderie. He expressed hope that the 40th edition would be an opportunity to learn and grow, make new friends, strengthen bonds within the police, and foster lasting memories and achievements.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma stated that the event is not just about competition, but a celebration of the courage, strength, and dedication that each member of the Nagaland Police brings to their duty.

“It strengthens the camaraderie and commitment to serving the people of Nagaland with honour,” he added.

The Duty-Cum-Sports Meet, a much-anticipated event in the Nagaland Police calendar, includes a variety of athletic events, such as track and field, volleyball, and team-building activities, among others.

Sharma further noted that officers from various districts participate, providing a chance to showcase their skills, engage in friendly competition, and get the opportunity to perform at the international and national levels.

He also commended the athletes for their dedication and encouraged them to bring the same energy and spirit to their duties.
Earlier, the inauguration began with the assembly of participating teams, followed by the arrival of the special guest, the Governor, and the rendition of the National Anthem.

The highlight of the event was the grand march-past by the participating teams, showcasing discipline and coordination, a DIPR report added.

Matches for the league matches of football and volleyball competition had already started before the opening ceremony. The preliminary for drill competition is also already over.

The 40th edition of the Nagaland Police Duty-Cum-Sports Meet 2024 will conclude on November 20.
