Nagaland Governor urges to strengthen welfare schemes

Kohima, May 4 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on May 4 chaired a review meeting with the Department of Social Welfare at the Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, emphasising the need to strengthen implementation of welfare schemes and improve inter-departmental coordination for effective delivery of services.

PRO Lok Bhavan, Nagaland in a press release said Director Social Welfare Tosheli Zhimomi presented a comprehensive overview of key programmes and initiatives being implemented across the state, covering major schemes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, including Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya, and Mission Shakti, with focus on nutrition, child protection, and women's empowerment.

The meeting also reviewed programmes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Rural Development, addressing welfare measures for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Progress in child protection mechanisms, including Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, and Child Helpline services, was also discussed in detail during the meeting.

The Governor appreciated the department's efforts in implementing welfare schemes and reaching beneficiaries across the state, while underlining the need to enhance public awareness alongside improved inter-departmental coordination.

On issues concerning Persons with Disabilities, the Governor suggested organising block-wise and village-level camps in coordination with the Health and Family Welfare Department for issuance of disability certificates, to enable eligible individuals to access government benefits.
