Nagaland govt orders removal of unauthorised stickers from vehicle number plates

Kohima, March 18 (MExN): The Nagaland government has directed all vehicle owners, both government and private, to remove unauthorised flags, emblems, names, symbols, stickers, seals and logos from registration plates within 45 days, officials said on Wednesday.

The directive was issued in accordance with Rules 50 and 51 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which govern the form, manner and size of registration marks on motor vehicles.

While Rule 50 mandates the use of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), Rule 51 specifies the prescribed dimensions and colour schemes for letters and numbers on number plates.

The state government said the move follows a directive issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on November 7, 2025, calling for strict enforcement of these provisions.

“In the interest of the general public,” the notification stated, all vehicle owners must comply within the stipulated period, failing which strict action will be initiated against defaulters.
