The 2023 Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination results of Nagaland announced on May 24, among others, indicated two positive trends - Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) continue to compete on an equal footing with private schools, and some are consistently outperforming their private counterparts.
One such school is GHSS Jotsoma, which has achieved a 100% pass percentage for two consecutive years (2023 and 2022) and three times in the last four years in the Commerce stream, with at least five students. It narrowly missed the mark in 2021 with a clearance rate of 91%.
In the Arts stream, GHSS Jotsoma achieved a 100% feat in 2020 with 29 students. In 2023, it secured 97% with 37 students. The percentages in 2022 and 2021 were 89% and 87%, respectively.
Another school hitting two consecutive centuries is GHSS Naginimora in the Arts stream, with 9 students in 2023 and 8 in 2022. In 2021 and 2020, the school's clearance rate was 45% and 90%, respectively.
Meanwhile, GHSS Zunheboto has produced 100% pass results during the last three examinations in the Science stream, although there was only one student each year.
The case of Rüzhükhrie GHSS is also worth noting. During the last four years, the school has achieved two 100% pass percentages, one in the Arts stream and one in the Commerce stream.
Remarkably, in the Arts stream, the number of students passing out each year was above 100, except in 2020 when Rüzhükhrie GHSS achieved a 100% feat with 29 students. The results thereafter were 91%, 88%, and 96% respectively in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
In the Commerce stream, all 40 students from the school passed the exam in 2022, while in 2023, it missed the mark by a whisker with a 97% pass percentage.
In the Science stream, GHSS Mon has also produced remarkable results over the years, with 100% pass results in 2020 and 2021, while averaging 94.5% in the next two years.
Other GHSS schools securing 100% pass percentages during the last four years from 2020-2023 are: GHSS Chiechama (Arts 2020), GHSS Tuensang (Science 2022), and GHSS Phek (Science 2021).
