Nagaland: Inter district GHS and GHSS Tournament 2024 underway

A two-day long Inter District Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) and Government High School (GHS) Tournament 2024 under the aegis of the Directorate of School Education, Nagaland and sponsored by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland commenced with inaugural function at Meriema Ground in Kohima district on March 26.

Altogether, 318 participants across 16 districts are taking part in this tournament in the discipline of athletics at Meriema, Sepaktakraw and Badminton at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima and P Khel, Kohima village respectively.

Gracing the inaugural function at Meriema, Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director of School Education urged upon the students to uphold a discipline life and work hard to excel in the field of sports. He told the students to exercise moral discipline-physically and spiritually and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.

Tsopoe told the Physical Education Teacher (PET) to nurture the students well and push them to excel at the national and international level. Big responsibility lies with PET, he said.

He also called upon the parents to support and motivate their children, maintaining that there is a lot of prospect in the sports industry. Maintaining that there is no dearth of talent among the Nagas in the field of sports, he called upon the students to take sincerity, consistency and determination as the main tool to excel.

The inaugural function was chaired by Physical Education Officer, Vitsolie Keyho. Competition referee Neilazetuo Khezhie administered oath to the participating teams.

The tournament will conclude on March 27.
