Nagaland: International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women 2023 observed

Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): The International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and 16 Days Activism against Gender Based Violence was observed under the theme ‘Unite! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls’ in various places in Nagaland on November 25.

Wokha: To mark the day, Wokha District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women and One Stop Centre under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao organised an awareness programme on gender based violence and sexual harassment at work place at DC conference hall, Wokha, a DIPR report stated. 

Delivering the keynote address, EAC and Nodal officer Mission Shakti, Wokha, Luchui Fitu stressed on the various laws and Acts enacted inorder to prevent and safeguard women from various kind of crimes and sexual harassment at different places, she also enlightened them to be aware of their rights and encouraged them to voice out and fight for their rights to avoid being victims of crimes.

Dr Wonchano E Enny, DCM, DHEW highlighted and gave a brief introduction on Mission Shakti and Wokha Saathi. ASI, Cyber Cell, SP Office Wokha, Sothungo Murry gave a power point presentation  about sexual harassment at work place and cyber crime.
Representatives from Lotha Eloe Hoho, churches and women employees from all the Head of Offices under Wokha district attended the programme.

Niuland: A seminar was held at EAC Town Hall Nihokhu, Niuland district to commemorate the day. A DIPR report stated that EAC Niuland & Nodal Officer, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Niuland, Kelengunuo Solo, chaired the programme and highlighted the aims and objectives of the event.

Vinotoli V Achumi, Supervisor ICDS Project Niuland and Michael Aye, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority were resource persons of the seminar. Achumi, stressed on violence against women such as domestic, socio-eco, child marriage and physiological violence while Aye, enlightened the gathering on legal rights and privileges of the women.
Earlier, the programme started with invocation by Tokheli Zhimomi, Sumi Totimi Loka, Nihokhu.

Chizami: District Administration, Sakhi OSC, DHEW in collaboration with Chizami Village Women Society, NEN (North East Network) Chizami, observed the day at the Chizami Village Council Hall. 

A solidarity walk followed by a formal programme was held with an invocation by Teweu Mero, Women Pastor, Chizami Village Baptist Church. Short speeches were shared by Jitsiasa Nyusou, Centre Administrator, Sakhi OSC and Wekoweu Tsühah, State Coordinator, NEN. Veposelu Naroh highlighted on the roles of District Hub for Empowerment of women followed by awareness on the services of Sakhi OSC, 181 and legal rights of women were shared by Methseü Divina Therie, Case Worker, Sakhi OSC. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Jopokuyi Nyekha, Office Assistant, Sakhi OSC. 

A total of 350 attendees from various village women societies under Chizami Block: Chizami Village; Chizami Town; Sumi; Musulumi; Enhulumi; Thetsümi attended the event. Apele Tsuhah, Chairperson, Chizami Village Women Society pronounced the benediction. The programme was chaired by Vilazono, Project Lead, NEN, Chizami.
