Nagaland: Kigwema, Mitelephe ASF declared infected zones

KOHIMA, AUGUST 12 (MExN): The Kohima district administration has declared Kigwema and Mitelephe villages as African Swine Fever (ASF) infected zones and imposed restrictions to contain the spread of the disease.

In an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, based on a letter from the Chief Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service dated August 5, the administration said the infected zones will cover a one-kilometre radius around the affected premises.

A surveillance zone has also been established, extending 10 km from the infected premises, which includes a nine-kilometre radius outside the infected zone.

Containment measures include a complete ban on the slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets, and transportation of pigs and pork within the notified zones until further orders, the notification said.
