Dimapur, December 5 (MExN): Founder of YouthNet and Nari Shakti Puruskar winner Hekani Jakhalu has said that lack of infrastructural development including good road connectivity and lack of private sector industries, etc., has hindered the growth of entrepreneurship in Nagaland.
Addressing the evening session of the first Cultural Exchange Programme organised by the East Dimapur Youth Organization (EDYO) on December 3 at the Kachari Community Playground, Darogajan-Khushiabill as guest of honour, Jakhalu said that many leaders encourage youth to take up entrepreneurship as Government sector white collar job were saturated.
“However, lack of infrastructural development, good roads connectivity, private sector industries with power backups; tourism has hindered growth with limited local economy to sustain such start-ups with limited capital,” she added.
Jakhalu committed that she would continue working towards boosting the entrepreneurial ecosystem needed for creating job opportunities in the same way she has been working for the past 16 years, impacting over 1.2 lakh youth in the state towards capacity building, career guidance in various sectors and creating livelihood opportunities, a press release stated.
On the occasion, she also lauded the EDYO for organising the programme. She said it was ‘timely and the need of the hour,’ considering the need for unity towards early Naga political solution and eradicating clannism and tribalism in the State.
She also congratulated the organisation for bringing different communities together as East Dimapur was like mini-Nagaland for its evident diversity. Stating that the area can be an exemplary platform in the state to showcase unity as its strength, she encouraged them by assuring support and guidance in the future by way of collaborating with various other like-minded organisations, foundations in the country so that it grows, benefiting East Dimapur based on their vision plan to take various other welfare and youth issues under its banner and leadership.
Further, lauding the efforts of EDYO, she reminded that it too needs to have a long-term clear vision so that it becomes an effective organisation in the years ahead.
Various cultural programs, ethnic wear shows, music were performed by various artists representing communities residing in East Dimapur, the release stated.
