Nagaland Legislative Assembly pays tribute to Late Mavil Khieya

KOHIMA, JANUARY 18 (MExN): Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer, has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Mavil Khieya, former Minister of the NLA, who passed away in Kohima on January 18.

In his condolence message, Longkumer described Khieya as a respected leader, recalling his distinguished political career. Mavil Khieya was first elected to the 7th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the 14 - Southern Angami-I Assembly Constituency on a Congress ticket, where he served as Minister of Forest, Ecology, Environment & Wildlife Preservation, Publicity & Tourism, and Geology and Mining.

Khieya was later re-elected to the 9th Nagaland Legislative Assembly as an independent candidate, where he stood out as the only opposition member to refuse to join the ruling government. His principled stance earned him respect not only among legislators but also from state officials, media personnel, and the general public. His unwavering commitment to democratic values and his dedication to serving the people have left a lasting legacy.

On behalf of the members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and his own behalf, the Speaker extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, offering prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
