Governor calls for collective resolve to build prosperous state

The Eighth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly commenced at Kohima with an address by Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on March 2.

Stating that this House (NLA) represents the will of the people of the state, Bhalla was confident that the session will witness constructive deliberations on all matters of public importance while maintaining the highest democratic standards.

“My Government will be soon completing three years in office. I am happy to say that during this entire period, my Government has endeavoured to fulfil the trust reposed on it by the people of the State. At the same time, my Government remains grateful to the people and to this House for the unflinching support and cooperation,” Bhalla said.

The Governor highlighted various initiatives, policies and programmes undertake by the Government. He stressed the need to elevate, “our efforts, expand our own resource base, bring in the right kind of structures, and build the capacities and skills of our people. This he said will enable “to deal successfully with all the challenges, as well as derive benefits from all the opportunities, that would be emanating from the situations arising because of the ever changing world around us.”

He was hopeful that that the deliberations in this session, will further strengthen “our resolve to create a more prosperous and developed Nagaland in every respect.”

Debate on Governor's address 

Meanwhile, debate to the motion of thanks to Governor's address will take place on March 3.

Earlier, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio made obituary reference to the passing away of   former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Anantrao Pawar and former minister Imkong L Imchen.

NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer made obituary references to passing away of four NLA former members – N Kielu, Dr Kashu Kath, P Mongchua and Nkhao Lotha.

The House observed 2-minute silence in honour and respect of the departed souls.

Later, Küzholüzo Nienu moved motion of thanks on the Governor's Address and seconded by Tovihoto Ayemi and Nuklutoshi.
