Nagaland Congress candidate S Supongmeren Jamir appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the voters who came out to exercise their adult franchise in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
After casting his vote from 25 Mongoya Assembly Constituency, Jamir while speaking to The Morung Express stated that this time his party had stood on the right principles and policies which the voters were closely concerned about. Based on the experiences gained while campaigning on the road these past few weeks, Jamir said, “our voters are more serious than their electors when it comes to issues concerning the state, especially at the grassroots.”
In past elections, he said that most of the voters had little to no passion when it came to whom they voted. However this time felt completely different, he viewed.
Jamir had extensively campaigned about addressing the ENPO issue, confront socio-economic challenges of the state and empowering the youth through providing real employment opportunities. In addition, he claimed that among older voters, they were heavily concerned with upholding and protecting the social-cultural identity of the people which his party also championed.
In this regard, he felt confident about the overall prospects of the result, saying that “those who have turned up to cast their precious vote, they are very serious about the state’s situation and so have voted cautiously.”
Jamir mentioned that while his opponent, Dr Chumben Murry had the confidence of the 60 MLAs of the State, he on the other hand had the trust of the people.
