CEO press conference on April 7
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, will be addressing a press conference on April 7 at 2:00 pm. The press conference to be held at the Media Cell, CEO office Nagaland will be in connection to the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha election.
Election campaigning period to be over on April 7
Chief Electoral Officer, Sentiyanger Imchen, in a press release has notified to all concerned that as per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the campaigning period for election to the 16th Lok Sabha Election, 2014 shall come to an end from 4:00 pm on April 7. The District Election Administration/ Police Administration shall ensure that all political functionaries shall leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over, said the CEO. The said restriction may not be insisted upon for the office bearer of the political party who is in-charge of the state. Such office bearer of the political party shall declare his place of stay in the State HQs, and his movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of his stay, the release stated.
CEO informs on alternative documents
As per the direction of ECI regarding identification of electors, the CEO Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS has informed all electors who have been issued Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to produce the EPIC for their identification at the polling station before casting their votes. Those electors who are not able to produce the EPIC shall produce one of the following alternative photo identity documents for establishing their identity: Passport, Driving License, Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt. PSUs/Public Limited Companies, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, MNREGA Job card, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Pension document with photograph and Authenticated Photo Voter Slip issued by the election machinery.
In case of EPIC, minor discrepancies in the entries should be ignored provided the identity of the elector could be established by the EPIC. If it is not possible to establish the identity of the elector on account of mismatch of photograph etc., the elector shall have to produce one of the above mentioned alternative photo documents.
As per the direction of the Election Commission of India, CEO Nagaland further informed that Authenticated Photo Voter slips shall be distributed to all electors before the poll day. On the day of poll, it shall be ensured that the BLO sit at the facilitation desk outside the polling station with undistributed photo voter slips, so that any elector who has not been issued Authenticated Photo Voter slip can collect the same in original outside the polling station.
Webcasting at 83 polling booths in Nagaland
To monitor the election process in Nagaland, live webcasting facility has been put in place in 83 polling stations covering 11 district HQs. The booths were selected based on the internet connectivity. Nagaland CEO, Sentiyanger Imchen said the webcasting was installed with a view to detect proxy voting, booth capturing and any other election malpractices. The live video will be made available to the general public on April 9, 2014 from 7 am to 4 pm in the CEO Nagaland website (www.ceonagaland.nic.in) to ensure free and fair elections and to maintain transparency in the poll process.
Final training for election personnel of Peren
Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Peren, Peter Lichamo has informed all polling personnel in Peren district drafted for 16th Lok Sabha Elections that the final training will be held on April 7. For presiding and 1st polling officials, it will be held at 10:00 am at Town Hall and for 2nd, 3rd & 4th polling officials at 12:00 noon at Local Ground, Peren. Therefore all concerned have been informed to bring 1(one) passport size photo for ID cards.
Mkg polling personnel informed
DC & ARO Mokokchung, Murohu Chotso has said that polling group formation has been done and it is now ready for issue. He has informed all the officers and staff who have been drafted for election duty to collect the appointment order from the facilitation counter set up at the office of the DIO, NIC, Mokokchung from 10:00 AM of 4th April 2014 onwards. He also said 3rd and final randomization (Polling Booth allocation) will be notified later on.
DC Mkg directs political parties on defacement
DC & ARO Mokokchung, Murohu Chotso has said pasting of posters and hanging/display of banners on public and private buildings/structures without the consent of the owners by political parties in and around Mokokchung town is a clear violation of the provision of the Model Code of Conduct and the Nagaland Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1985. He therefore, directed all political parties to immediately remove all such materials/articles that are pasted/ displayed in public view. He warned that failure to comply with the DC & ARO directives would attract appropriate action under the relevant sections of Laws.
SVEEP campaign at Jakhama
The SVEEP Audio Visual Mobile Publicity Van visited Jakhama sub-division on April 3, where an awareness programme was held at the office of the SDO (C) Jakhama.
Addressing the program, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, Sungti Jamir said the programme on SVEEP was adopted by the Election Commissioner of India (ECI) to emphasize on clean, fair and free election. She called upon the village leaders to spread the message of ‘your vote is your strength, don’t let your vote go in vain; your vote is your right, your vote will elect your leader, Exercise your franchise’. She also urged the people to vote fairly, stop selling votes and avoid proxy and multiple voting etc. Other highlights of the programme included screening of a short video clipping on SVEEP Campaign ‘My Vote is Precious’ and ‘My Vote Makes my Future’. Government officials, representatives from seven neighbouring villages and Jakhama Town council members attended the programme.
