‘Nagaland needs genuine teachers’

Phek | February 17 : Minister for Health & Family Welfare, government of Nagaland, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today asserted that the educationally developing state like Nagaland needs genuine and dedicated teachers to bring out quality education. He said that introducing communitization under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) system of education in the state has eased the burdens of the government as the authority from the grassroot level is empowered to assist the government. He also added that it adds a brighter prospect especially for the youngsters.
He was addressing the members of Village Education Committee(s) (VECs) and leaders from the various villages of Phek District on the occasion of first ever Village Education Day 2011 held today at Town Hall, Phek as the guest speaker. The day was observed under the theme, ‘Celebrating Communitization’ organized by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, District Mission Authority (DMA) Phek.
“The functioning of the so called bogus and proxy teachers which are totally against the norms and criteria of the government is eating up the society’s economy and subsequently posing threat to education community,” Nienu maintained and made a fervent appeal to the VECs to play a constructive role in this regard at their own level. He further disclosed that the government is slowly and gradually making strategies to wipe out the bogus and ghost teachers issue after some few times with special emphasis in all the government institutions.
Nienu said communitization which provides a great opportunity to the village authority VECs should never misuse the authority provision rather everything specially funds should maintain with accountability. Azo stated that the VEC should act as a good administrator and should opt to produce genuine teachers as his priority and one should never bow down the table and authority under whatsoever circumstances. He said the future of the Nagas lies with good percentage on VECs. Assuring to provide funds from the common pool of DPDB fund towards the promotion of the VEC functioning, he warned them ‘never be a money oriented leader’. Expressing his desire to have threadbare discussions in the second sessions, he said that one should never go home without clearing and solving his doubts and problems.
Meanwhile, the organisers informed that the day was observed with an intention of showing the department gratitude and appreciation to the Village Communities. Stating, this is the first of its kind, the day was observed after eight years, since the launching of communitization in 2003 by the then chief secretary of Nagaland R.S. Pandey. They also stated that seven successive Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been part of the implementation of SSA, who is also the Chairman of DMA by virtue along with four full fledged DEOs. The district which has four blocks has 109 VECs and altogether 117 VEC members from all over the district attended the programme.
Later, the VECs were awarded with cash and certificates as part of recognizing their satisfactory performance under their blocks as best performing VEC Phek Block-Losami Village VEC, Chozuba block-Runguzu Nawe Village VEC, Pfutsero Block-Enhulumi Village VEC and Meluri Block-Shatuza Village VEC. Earlier, the morning session was led by Chonpa, DIS, Phek and keynote address was delivered by Vekhozo Asst. District Coordinator, DMA, SSA, Phek.
