The Dimasa Kachari Cultural Troupe today performed Bai Maijai (Folk Dance) on Day 5 of Cultural Connect at the ongoing Hornbill Festival 2022 at Kisama. In olden times, upon receiving news of victory, the women folk of the village went out half way to receive their victorious warriors. With rock in their hands, portraying the invincibility of their home coming heroes, the women folk danced jubilantly in celebration of this momentous event. Sumi cultural troupe performed spear kicking on Day 5 of Cultural Connect at the ongoing Hornbill Festival 2022 at Kisama on December 5. Spear kicking is a traditional game played by forefathers. A spear in planted on the ground and a target is set atop the end of the spear. The players kick the target or kick it out. This game is played with the intention of selecting an energetic and agile man who is able enough to go to war. (Morung Photo)

Representing Zeliang Naga, Jennelulo Cultural Troupe of Jalukie performed Herui on Day 5 of Cultural Connect at Hornbill Festival 2022 at Kisama on December 5. The male folk hold a bunch of flowers or leaves on both hands, flailing it in the air in synchrony with their dance steps.Similarly, the yodeling progresses producing a beautiful combination of five different tunes of yodeling. Ngorayi Lohe, representing Chakhesang tribe won Stilt Bamboo Walk competition, held at Kisama as part of Hornbill Festival on December 5. He pocketed a cash prize of Rs 6000. Tachiho from Pochury tribe and Ketholel Noho from Angami tribe stood 2nd and 3rd position and awarded with Rs 4000 and Rs 2000 respectively. The Middle Khomi Village Cultural Troupe, representing Chakhesang Naga performed Thiipuhiisazo (Folk dance) on Day 5 of Cultural Connect at the ongoing Hornbill Festival 2022 at Kisama on December 5. The dance is performed by the males to mark victory over enemy or evil. During forefather’s time, headhunting was very common. When a man killed an enemy, he was beheaded and the head was brought to the village. The male adults then partake in a big feast hosted by the man who killed the enemy. They climb on top of each other and the head of the victim was held high to show-off the trophy. (Morung Photo) 

Khensa Cultural Club Mokokchung, representing Ao Naga performed Tiitongtiichiyar (Lover’s Dance) on Day 5 of Cultural Connect at Hornbill Festival 2022 at Kisama on December 5. During festivals after the day’s festivities are over, at sunset with the darkness approaching, young boys and girls of the village gather together. The boys come from their dormitory (Morung/Arju) and the girls from their dormitory (Ziiki). The girls bring gifts like loin cloth, dao- holder belt for their admirers, whereas the boys gifted the girls with smoking pipe.(Morung Photo)

1st Hornbill RC Model Competition and Aviation Airshow were held at Nagaland State Stadium, Dimapur on December 5 and 6 with I Kitto Zhimomi IRS, Commissioner, and Secretary, Tourism Department as special guest. As per a DIPR report, Zhimomi said ‘they are trying to connect all 16 districts with 16 aircraft which they are working hard on which will not only help the tourism sector but also help the villagers sell their art and craft work and improve the economic process.’ (DIPR Photo)

Vinika Yepthomi and band perform on the concluding day of the 12th edition of the North East Riders Meet at Noune Resort on December 5. Hosted by the Nagaland Motorcycle Club under the theme, ‘When We Meet, We Grow,’ a total of 1831 riders from the region, across the country and 3 other countries officially participated in the event. On Monday, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio interacted with the riders. “The coming together of more than 2k riders from 24 states, 125 cities and 4 countries sends out the message of peace.
