Nagaland NPCB directs plastic stakeholders to register on EPR portal

Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) has directed all Producers, Importers and Brand Owners (PIBOs) of plastic packaging and Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) operating in the State to register on the Centralised Common Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Portal developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

In a notice dated September 23, the NPCB directed the concerned entities to complete registration on the portal within 30 days from the date of issue of the notice.

The EPR portal can be accessed through the CPCB website at epr.cpcb.gov.in.

The NPCB cited Provision 18 of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, as notified through the July 6, 2022 amendment, stating that environmental compensation would be levied on persons not complying with the provisions of the rules, based on the polluter pays principle, as per guidelines notified by the CPCB.

The notice applies to producers, importers and brand owners of plastic packaging, as well as plastic waste processors operating in Nagaland.
