Nagaland: NPF wants NLA discussion on Naga issue, COVID-19 and SARFAESI Act

KOHIMA, JULY 22 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed concern at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker’s decision refusing to entertain the issues raised by the NPF Legislature Wing during the recently held BAC meeting.

A press release from the NPF press bureau said that the issues raised by the NPF were of urgent matter and of public importance. “It is expected that the Speaker to consider the subject matter and table in the forthcoming Assembly session rather than outrightly rejecting it,” it added.

The NPF had raised that the Naga political issue, COVID-19 and the SARFAESI Act 2000 to be discussed in the floor of the house. “But Speaker has flatly refused the plea of the opposition party,” it said.

The NPF said that the Naga Political issue requires urgent attention as the Naga people are anxiously awaiting for an early honourable solution, and therefore, this needs to be discussed in the Assembly.

It further said that the present pandemic is another issue which should also be discussed thoroughly as the public has every right to know how the Government is handling it. The NPF said that programmes and activities of the present and future course of action need to be deliberated thoroughly and for which a joint effort is required.

“It is obvious that the PDA Government has not been effectively tackling the present pandemic and that could be the primary reason why the PDA Government do not want to discuss the COVID-19 in the Assembly,” the NPF claimed.

Regarding the SARFAESI Act 2002, the NPF said that keeping this issue in limbo is adversely affecting young entrepreneurs as they cannot avail loan from the banks because of the conflicting stand adopted by the present Government.

“Therefore, the refusal on the part of the Speaker on the public importance issues on unjustified stand and depicts the callous attitude of the present PDA Government towards the welfare of the public,” it said.

The NPF reiterated that the issues raised by its Legislature Wing should be once again considered for thorough discussion in the forth coming Assembly session.

Meanwhile, on a separate note, the NPF expressed concern over the recent advertisement in the Medical Department. While recognizing the need for more medical staffs, the party however said that any appointment should be done as per the laid down norms and conditions of the Government procedures so that no deserving candidates are deprived.

“The Government should not discriminate any batch of the trained medical staff and the department should not float any new rules regarding the recruitment policy just because of the present pandemic situation,” it asserted.
