Kohima, May 15 (MExN): The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Nagaland today appealed to the public to continue fight against dengue by taking preventive measures.
This is crucial as the state stand in the throes of COVID-19 pandemic, implied a press release from Dr Neisakho Kere, Joint Director & SPO, NVBDCP, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland.
The release issued on the eve of National Dengue Day May 16 marked to create awareness on the disease, also highlighted common symptoms of dengue as well as measures to prevent infection.
Common symptoms are severe headache and high fever, pain in muscles and joints, pain in rear portion of eyes, nausea and vomiting, measles like rash etc, it said.
As the dengue transmitter aedes aegypti mosquito a ‘synanthropic’ species, it benefit from artificial habitats created where people live and therefore prevention is vital, it said.
As the pandemic has affected our daily lives including the programme activities, the state NVBDCP programme appeals to the public to participate in controlling dengue mosquito breeding in and around their surroundings, it added.
Among others, the NVBDCP recommended emptying out water in all the containers around the house like flower pot bases, empty vessels, coolers, tyres, buckets etc. Dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water and the eggs will hatch in a week, it said.
Further, all water filled vessels and tanks must be tightly kept covered and any rubbish lying around like plastic cups, old containers, tyres, coconut shells etc must be removed, it added.
Besides checking around the compound every week, the NVBDCP also called for sleeping under mosquito nets, especially pregnant women and children. Immediately consult a doctor incase of high fever, it added.
