The minimum educational qualification for recruitment to the post of Nagaland Police Constable (GD) is Class 8 pass, while Class 6 pass is prescribed for candidates belonging to the backward tribe category, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said in the state Assembly.
Patton, who holds the Home portfolio, made the statement in reply to a starred question raised by MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu during the ninth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima on September 1.
Asked whether the prescribed minimum educational qualification was at par with the rest of the country for recruitment of new police personnel, Patton said the minimum qualification for recruitment of police constables varies from state to state.
On whether the existing qualification was sufficient to enable newly recruited police personnel to be adequately trained and equipped to deal with present-day challenges, including cybercrime and other specialised crimes, Patton said recruits are provided requisite training.
The newly recruited constables also undergo various other training programmes to equip them with the necessary skills to perform their assigned duties, including dealing with cybercrime and other specialised crimes, he said.
