Nagaland Police issues social media advisory

Kohima, June 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Police has issued a strict advisory to all social media group administrators and members, to exercise caution while posting, sharing or forwarding messages, images, videos or other content, warning of legal action against those found sharing “offensive, misleading or unlawful content” that could disturb public peace.

According to a statement from the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Kohima, “group administrators are responsible for monitoring the content shared within their groups.” It stated that legal proceedings will be initiated against both the individual poster and the group admin “if any post, message, or material is found to be offensive, misleading, unlawful, or likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity.”

The PRO, Nagaland Police also cautioned all users to “verify information before sharing and refrain from posting content that may incite hatred, violence, panic, or public disorder.”

The directive comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation and provocative content on digital platforms.
