Dimapur, December 21 (MExN): Nagaland Police Open Recruitment Rally (ORR) which commenced from November 15 witnessed a total of 16,586 eligible applicants, averaging over 80 candidates for one post.

Various tests were held across the district headquarters in the state for the enrolment of 78 Constables (GD) to the NAP and 128 Constables (GD) to the District Executive Force (DEF) units as per the existing reservation policies of the Government, stated a press release issued by the IGP (Hqr), Police Headquarters.

The number must have been higher as the release provided the data only for ‘eligible applicants’ and did not include rejected applicants.

The recruitment process was divided into several categories which included physical fitness test, medical test, written test and oral interview, it said.

Out of the 16,586 candidates, 4642 candidates qualified for the written test. From the written test, 650 candidates (both male and female) were shortlisted for the Oral Interview conducted at the Police Complex, Chümoukedima.

“The response received from the candidates is extremely overwhelming. The primary focus of this rally is to provide an opportunity for the youth of this state and motivate them to join the Nagaland Police,” Nagaland DGP, T John Longkumer, IPS was quoted as saying by the release.

“The recruitment depends on perseverance and hard work. This year, we saw a good number of candidates from the Backward Tribe who did exceptionally well in the various tests,” he added.

Highest applicants from Mon and Tuensang

The highest number of candidates, who appeared for the written test, was from Mon with 818 candidates, followed by Tuensang with 805 candidates.

From the final selection in line with the existing case laws on Implementation of Vertical and Horizontal Reservation Policies, 60% candidates belonging to the Backward Tribe got selected out of which 45 candidates were selected in the General Category, the release informed.

The candidates in possession of NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders were awarded extra points and selected as well, it said.

“The women applicants have performed well and have exceeded in all stages of the recruitment process,” it added.

A candidate with NCC ‘C’ Certificate, who also plays in the Nagaland Women Cricket team and holding a black belt in martial arts, was qualified in the process.

Two ex-servicemen were also recommended for appointment.

According to the release, the DGP Longkumer also lauded the selected candidates and was ‘heartened’ to observe that “well qualified candidates have been selected.”

“Effort was made to ensure fair examination and those deserving candidates have been selected because of their hard work. We hope to see more number of applicants come forward in future recruitment rallies,” the release added quoting the DGP.

The appointment orders of the selected candidates were given on December 20 at the Police Headquarters, Kohima.
