Nagaland Polls: Apex bodies in Kiphire adopt resolutions on election

Dimapur, February 22 (MExN): Four apex tribal bodies in Kiphire district— United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP), Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), Eastern Sumi Hoho (ESH), and Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) have adopted a four-point resolution in connection with the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election scheduled on February 27.

The resolutions were adopted during a consultative meeting on February 22 at USSC office, Kiphire, informed a joint press release appended by USLP Vice President, L Kipitong Sangtam, ESH Vice President, H Phutoi Sumi, YTC Ex Chairman, M Makezho, and TTC General Secretary, W Tothong Philip. 

Accordingly, the resolution stated that no individual or group would be allowed to practice “tribalism, clanism, areanism, etc.,” during the election. “No Naga Political Group (NPGs)/Factions shall involve by way of capturing individual/group (vote) of any political party (s) under Kiphire district,” the resolution stated.

It also advised all the electors in the district to practice ‘free and fair election,’ while adding that no person, individually or collectively, should be involved in destroying/damaging properties in connection with the election.

Stringent action would be initiated by the four apex bodies against any violators of the resolution, it cautioned.
