The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday declared the Class XII examination results for the 2025–26 academic session, with Nagaland registering an overall pass percentage of 87.12%.
However, a closer look at the institution-wise data points to a sharp performance gap between ‘government’ schools and centrally administered or private institutions in the state.
A press release from the CBSE announcing the results highlighted that among the different categories of institutions, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) emerged as the top performers, recording a pass percentage of 98.99%, with 293 out of 296 students clearing the examination.
This was followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), which recorded a pass percentage of 96.33%, with 105 out of 109 candidates passing.
Independent (private) schools, which accounted for the largest share of candidates in the state, also posted a strong performance with 923 students appearing and 804 qualifying for a pass percentage of 87.11%.
In contrast, out of 85 students appearing from government schools, only 29 passed, resulting in a pass percentage of 34.12%.
Gender-wise data showed a notable contrast within government institutions, with all eight girl candidates passing (100%), while only 21 of 77 boys cleared the examination, reflecting a pass percentage of 27.27% among boys.
Overall, girls outperformed boys across the state. Of the 662 girls who appeared, 608 passed, recording a pass percentage of 91.84%.
In comparison, 623 of the 751 boys who appeared cleared the examination, resulting in a pass percentage of 82.96%.
Across all institution, a total of 1,413 students appeared for the examination, out of which 1,231 passed, registering a pass percentage of 87.12%. A total of 1,421 students registered at the Senior Secondary level during the year, the release stated.
According to the CBSE’s School Affiliation Re-Engineered Automation System (SARAS 7.0), a total of 48 schools from Nagaland are affiliated with the Board.
Of these, 23 schools are affiliated up to the Senior Secondary (Class XII) level.
Among the government-run institutions offering Senior Secondary education are Army Public School, Assam Rifles Training Centre High School, and Sainik School.
