Nagaland: RPP calls Cong’s triumph ‘victory for the ages’

Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has termed the recent election of S Supongmeren Jamir to the lone Lok Sabha Seat from Nagaland as a “victory for the ages,” now “etched in history.”

The Indian National Congress (INC) candidate won the contest, defeating his nearest rival, Dr. Chumben Murry from NDPP, and the consensus candidate of the ruling NDPP-BJP-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland by 50,984 votes.

Congratulating Jamir of the Congress, its alliance partner, the RPP asserted that history would record that the former defeated the combined might of the opposition-less government in Nagaland with its 60 legislators and 2 Members of Parliament. This feat is unparalleled in India, it claimed.

The RPP further noted that the victory belongs to the Naga people and maintained the narrative of the recent Lok Sabha election held on April 19 in Nagaland was “People’s Power Vs 60 MLAs, with People’s Power winning the day.”

According to the party, the people voted against 21 years of “misrule” of Neiphiu Rio, with Congress receiving a massive 35% of the votes in his Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency. This victory is also a referendum against the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition, it added.

Right-thinking voters came out in full force to defeat the coalition candidate who represented the corruption and the misrule that has come to characterize this opposition-less government, the RPP claimed.

Further, it stated that the “wise people of Nagaland voted against the Hindutva agenda of the BJP for which no further elaboration is required.”

The RPP further asserted that a “new era has dawned in Nagaland politics” with voters standing strong on principle over money power and even the ‘curse of tribalism.’ “The NDPP-BJP coalition has utterly lost the mandate of the people. But for the threat of stopping developmental works by the powers that be, the victory margin would have been much larger,” it added.

The same force which swept Jamir to power will manifest itself in the next assembly elections. It’s only a matter of time, the RPP added.
