Nagaland sees remarkable decline in malaria cases

Public Private Partnership training of Medical Officers on Malaria, JE, and Dengue was held in Dimapur on March 15.

Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Training of Medical Officers on Malaria, JE, and Dengue was held at the conference hall of Chief Medical Officer’s office Dimapur on March 15. The training was organised by NVBDCP in collaboration with NHM & Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur and conducted for medical officers of both public and private health facilities, stated a press release issued by the IEC Bureau Section, Office of Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur.

Delivering the welcome address Dr Neisakho Kere SPO NVBDCP, gave an overview of the activities carried out under the banner of NVBDCP in the state. He stated that Nagaland has recorded remarkable yearly reduction of malaria cases since 2009. From 8489 malaria cases in 2009 it has come down to only 5, 4 and 5 indigenous cases in 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively. 

He credited this achievement to intensive anti-vector borne diseases control activities carried out such as house-to-house awareness and source reduction campaign, training conducted for teachers, community leaders, church leaders, awareness programmes in schools and villages, collaboration with private sector health care providers, fogging in high risk areas, etc.

The first session of the training module included clinical management of JE, Dengue and clinical management of malaria with resource persons Dr Manwen Konyak, MO District Hospital Dimapur and Dr Neilasakuo Linyu, Senior Medical Officer respectively.

During the second session, Approach to Diagnosis of Vector Borne Diseases, and Entomological Surveillance were presented by resource persons Dr T Temsu Longkumer, CMO Dimapur and Kikolul Khieya, Asst Director, UVBDS respectively.
