Dimapur | September 23
On Sunday, the Dimapur Traffic police personnel took on an altogether different role donning civilian clothing to ‘work’. The work was to repair a tricky, bumpy and sloping road segment leading to Lorna School near the New Dhansiri bridge.
The personnel smoothened out the road section, which acts a crucial diversion linking NH 29 with the Naga Shopping Arcade during rush hour, using concrete. According to one Traffic officer, the work was a voluntary initiative under the aegis of the DCP (Traffic), Dimapur. Traffic personnel volunteered to work till noon to lay the concrete, the officer said.
The officer added that the personnel had to rush to the airport without changing into their regular uniform as they were called to manage traffic at the Airport junction. He said that there was an unprecedented stream of mourners heading to the airport to receive the mortal remains of Advisor for Sericulture, Late Imtikumzuk Longkumer, who passed away at New Delhi on September 22.
