Kolkata, March 18 (MExN): Nagaland University received recognition at the XIX Annual Conference of the East Himalayan Society for Spermatophyte Taxonomy (EHSST) and an international seminar on “Taxonomy, Biodiversity Conservation, Traditional Knowledge and Sustainable Utilization of Plant Resources,” held at University of Calcutta on March 14 and 15.
The event was organised in collaboration with Mushroom Biotech and the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
Imnajungla, a research scholar in the Department of Botany, Nagaland University, under the supervision of Dr Viheno Iralu, was awarded the Best Paper Presentation under the theme “Ethnobotany and Evaluation of Traditional Knowledge.” Her paper was titled “Biocultural Conservation of Indigenous Wild Fruit Trees: Traditional Knowledge and Folk Narratives in Rangkang Community Forest, Nagaland.”
Dr Imtilila Jing, a faculty member in the same department, also received the Best Paper Presentation award under the theme “Biodiversity Assessment, Conservation and Application” for her study titled “Phenology of Three Selected Species of Genus Rhododendron L (Ericaceae) of Nagaland.”
The achievements highlight ongoing research efforts in biodiversity conservation and traditional knowledge systems, and are expected to further strengthen academic engagement, collaboration, and community-based bioresource conservation initiatives in Nagaland.
