LUMAMI, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Department of Mass Communication, Nagaland University Headquarters in Lumami has released its newsletter titled ‘Mass Com Chronicle.’ The newsletter was released by Professor Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, NU in the presence of the special invitees including Yarenthung Ezung, Controller of Examination and Albert Khizho, Finance Officer.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor suggested for bringing out a tabloid size monthly newspaper with outreach news beyond the campus, stated a press release. “The Naga society is a rich flourishing society but are not able to capitalise the richness,” he observed while urging the students to take active part in disseminating positive ideas, information and messages to inform the masses about its important impact. Further, the Vice-Chancellor proposed to rename the department as ‘Journalism and Mass Communication’ and to start a Bachelor's degree such as Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) along with a Masters Programme. He stressed upon having dual degrees according to the National Education Policy (NEP). He also urged that the department increases its intake of students and proposed for more faculties. 

The programme was chaired by Shiken, 2nd semester student, with welcome song by students of the Dept of Mass Communication and welcome address by A Das, Assistant Professor. Brief notes on the department's activities, events and also highlighting the issues along with the challenges faced by the department were briefed by Salonger Jamir and Mercy. A note from the Editor was put forward by Talikaba Ao. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Wapangsungla Longkumer, Guest Faculty from the department.
