Meriema, August 19 (MExN): The School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, conducted an Orientation and Induction Programme for newly admitted postgraduate students and PhD scholars on August 19.

The programme brought together students from the M.Sc Biotechnology programme and M.Tech programmes in Information Technology, Data Science (Computer Science and Engineering), and Food Process Engineering (Agricultural Engineering and Technology), along with newly admitted PhD scholars from Biotechnology, Information Technology and Agricultural Engineering and Technology.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, Convener of the Induction Committee, who welcomed the newly admitted students and research scholars to Nagaland University.

He highlighted the importance of the orientation programme in familiarising students with the academic and research environment of the School and encouraged them to make effective use of the interdisciplinary opportunities and facilities available at the university.

This was followed by an ice-breaking and self-introduction session during which the newly admitted postgraduate students and PhD scholars introduced themselves and interacted with their peers.

The session provided an opportunity for students from different disciplines and backgrounds to connect with one another and marked the beginning of their academic journey at the university.

Prof Sujata Dash, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, also attended the programme and welcomed the students and scholars to the School.

In her address, she highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary education and research and encouraged students to explore opportunities for collaboration across engineering, technology and biotechnology disciplines.

She emphasised that interdisciplinary approaches are increasingly essential to addressing complex scientific, technological and societal challenges.

The programme provided newly admitted students and research scholars an opportunity to interact with the academic community and gain an understanding of the School's academic and research ecosystem.

It also emphasised collaboration, innovation, academic excellence and interdisciplinary research as integral components of postgraduate and doctoral education.
