North East Games 2024: Nagaland women’s team dominates in pencak silat

Nagaland kicked off to a powerful start for its Northeast Olympic Games campaign as the Women’s team dominated in the pencak silat game, winning an impressive five gold medals on Tuesday at the Futsal B venue in Sovima, Chümoukedima. 

In the women’s under 45 KG category, Nagaland’s Hinokali clenched the gold medal while Reema Boro from Assam won silver, Thingbaijam Dayalakshmi from Manipur and Meta Pao from Arunachal Pradesh got the bronze medal. For the senior group category, Liike Kibami and Hatneinem Khongsai from Nagaland won gold while Sunali Mochahari and Sabita Muchahary from Assam settled for silver. In the solo (senior) category, Liike Kibami won gold, Prerana Hazarika from Assam got silver and Thingbaijam Dayalakshmi from Manipur received the bronze medal. Under the regu (senior) category, Avikali, Hinokali and Hatneinem claimed gold while their opponents, Nistarini, Ananya and Roshmita from Assam took silver. 

Finally, Edwina Hanghal finished Nagaland’s gold medal streak for day 1 by claiming her gold in the tunggal (senior) category followed by Ananya Saikia from Assam getting silver and Chanambam Dolly from Manipur winning bronze. The venue witnessed loud cheers and applause as the women’s team propelled Nagaland to the top of the table in the medal tally on day one of the games. 
The competition will continue further on day 2 both for the women’s and men’s categories.
