The wait to witness the grand finale of Nagaland’s 1st Choir Olympics is finally over! “A high level of competition is expected with the ‘best’ choirs from 10 districts in Nagaland coming together,” Mele Pucho, President, Musician Guilds was expressing today. 


Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), rebranded from Music Task Force (MTF) this year and presented by Musicians’ Guild is organising the Choir Olympics. 


The soothing evening affair is scheduled this evening at 5:00 pm at the state’s premiere Music Centre, Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma and is guarantying a glorious night of enchanting music with choirs present their repertoire with widest vocal ranges and synchronization. 


The Choir teams are the respective districts winners held last month. They include Mon: Mon Chamber Choir, Dimapur: Cantamus Choir, Longleng: Orangkong Choir, Wokha: Bridge of the Gap Chamber Choir, Mokokchung: Ongmesang, Zunheboto: ZTSBC Youth Choir, Peren: Cantamus Choir, Kohima: Harmonic Voices, Tuensang: Yimchunger Baptist Church Choir, Phek: The Canticles. 


For the Grand Finale, there will be 2(two) rounds of performances. In each round, choirs will present one song each.


The best choir will receive a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh along with a trophy and certificate. The First and second runner up will get Rs.50,000 and Rs.25,000 respectively.


On October 24, another audition to select 20 musicians will take place after the finale to select a choir group to represent Nagaland at the 11th World Choir Games to be held in Belgium from July 5 to 15, 2020. 


Pauline Warjri, director, Aroha Choir, Shillong will be the chief judge and Ajeen Longchari Sucha and Mhonroni Lotha, Assistant Professor in Conducting, Margaret Shishak School of Music, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous).
