DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 16 (MExN): Sky Entertainment, in association with the Government of Nagaland Music Task Force, presents to you a once-in-a-lifetime event this coming year. On 12 January 2013, Dimapur will hold Nagaland’s first-ever Guinness Book of World Records attempt. “Our goal is to assemble between 500 to 1000 electric guitar players and break the record for the maximum amount of electric guitars ever played at one time. The attempt has already received official approval from the Guinness Team”, states a press note issued by Sky Entertainment.
In an appeal made, the organizers have encouraged people to take advantage of what it termed as a “groundbreaking opportunity to dream big and connect our people by doing one of the things we do best—music!” “We are making history, and we want you to join us. Together we can”, stated the press note.
The event will be held on 12 January 2013, at the Agri Expo Grounds, in Dimapur. The plan is for hundreds of electric guitarists, playing Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. In addition to the players on the ground, there will be 11 musicians on the stage representing 11 districts, each wearing the traditional clothing of that district. The organizers urged all the musicians, irrespective of age, sex, background, or professional level, to take part.
The organizers stated that they chose the song, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, as the theme song for our guitar players to perform together as the lyrics are relevant to our current situation. “Put my guns in the ground/I can’t shoot them anymore/That long black cloud is comin’ down/I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door”. Stating that Nagaland has a history of violence, of hostility, the press note stated that the vision of this Guinness attempt is to unite the Nagas through music, through a common goal. “We want to spark a flame that will ignite throughout the state. The youth of Nagaland need to be freed from the bondage of violence”.
Pointing out that one cannot bring total social change overnight, nevertheless it stated that this is a step in the right direction.
“Imagine musicians and all of the communities working together to achieve great things! This attempt to claim a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records will prove that our people are strong when united; it will serve as a loudspeaker to show the world what our people are capable of. Even a small, insignificant place can capture the attention of the world”, the press note stated.
Stating that there is vast expense associated with carrying out an event of this scale, the organizers stated that it need the support of people to take this project off the ground. “Your involvement would be strategic. Be it in monetary form or the form of materials, your partnership will make this happen. We’re requesting all of the organizations, unions, churches, student bodies, music schools, etc. to participate with us in this venture. Let’s all join hands to transform this dream into reality”.
