Nagaland’s Kekhriesilie Rio wins Grand Prix in France

DIMAPUR, APRIL 27 (MExN): Equestrian athlete Kekhriesilie Rio from Nagaland has won the Grand Prix at Haras de Liverdy in France in a showjumping competition, riding Presley OL.

Rio, who hails from Touphema village under Kohima district, is considered a pioneer for the Northeast in equestrian sports. He is among the first from the region to compete and achieve success at the international level in showjumping.

In 2020, at the age of 20, he was ranked World No. 2 in Category A by the Fédération Equestre Internationale, becoming the first Indian equestrian to attain that ranking.

He has also won the FEI World Jumping Challenge (South Zone) in Category A and secured multiple national championship titles.

Rio was introduced to equestrian sport at the age of eight. He pursued his education at Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, Pune, while continuing his competitive career.
