The North East Sanstha, Delhi, has honoured Yose Chaya from Nagaland with the North East India Achievers 2026 Award during the North East Conference 2026 held at Mavalankar Auditorium, Constitution Club, New Delhi, on March 1.
Chaya, who hails from Viswema village in Kohima district, was recognised for his lifelong and selfless service towards the preservation of the indigenous Angami Naga (Tsana) faith and culture, and for strengthening community resilience.
In a statement, the North East Sanstha said the honour was conferred in recognition of Chaya’s sustained efforts to safeguard indigenous traditions and promote cultural values within the community.
Born into a humble farming family, Chaya upheld the values of hard work, discipline and cultural rootedness throughout his life.
Alongside his service as a Government Primary School teacher, he emerged as a cultural guardian during a period when ancestral traditions and belief systems faced a serious decline.
As a central leader of Japfu Phiki Pfutsana Keseko Kehou and founder of Japfu Phiki Pfutsana School, Chaya mobilised collective efforts to safeguard indigenous religious practices, revive traditional festivals and promote culturally grounded education for future generations.
His leadership strengthened community confidence, helped protect intangible heritage and promoted unity through cultural self-reliance.
The Sanstha stated that through his quiet yet profound national service, Chaya continues to embody pluralism, constitutional values and Bharat’s enduring civilisational ethos.
The organisation also wished him continued success in his future endeavours and commended his exemplary work in advancing indigenous cultural preservation, spiritual heritage and community resilience.
The North East Conference 2026, organised by North East Sanstha, Delhi, featured thematic sessions focusing on the region’s cultural heritage, customary traditions, development trajectory, policy perspectives, social harmony and future opportunities.
