Nagas and women reservation...

If the impasse on 33% women reservation still hang fire somewhere, it is here in Nagaland, with Nagas apparently on the verge of being sold away by none except ourselves. To top the vexed issue with ire, our NLA on July 18, 2012, released a rather brief yet rageful circular in local dailies which read, "The last date for submitting proposals, evidence and representations has been fixed for July 20, 2012..."

There are questions, furious ones indeed, but let's leave all our toothed resentment for now, far as the publicity wing of NLA is concerned and instead, eye this reservation once again. As of now, Nagas have outrightly rejected it but as many bloggers agree, it's our government who always take Nagas to ransom for personal interests when it's the people who ought to enjoy absolute power.

Weeks ago an elder advised our women to think wise and just. True. We also must know that this particular 'Act' belongs to India, roped in by vested individuals for political gain then, where castes & classes confine women to corners. However, we practice nothing of the sort and as such, this 33% reservation is a farce, unless a politicking maneuver, totally unnecessary to us. Let's not become someone's cheap political guinea pigs for lab trials!

Take it that the dais of competition for Nagas is always open 100% for anyone, anytime, provided he/she fulfills the required criteria. And now, if we're to slice off 33% for our dearies again, maybe we best coin it 133% reservation for Naga women!
On the lines of religion, i.e. Christianity, there's nothing more nor less to pen because not even a dot can be changed from The Good Book, they preach. Yes, we may be created equal in the image of God, by Him, but, let's be very clear that this will never justify with our God-given separate duties and responsibilities whatever!

So also is culture. I, for one, can never comprehend its wrath, which is of the people, if ever one were to bypass solemn authority.
