Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland today said that “Solution before Election has brought all the negotiating teams of NPGs – the NNPGs and the IM under one platform” and this “very positive development” must be welcomed by “all patriotic Nagas.”
In this connection, a press statement issued ACAUT Media cell said that, “Nagas are at the threshold of history and it is highly doubtful if such an opportunity may come again in the near foreseeable future.”
“Given such extraordinary situation the option left before the Nagas is very clear. i.e., send a strong unity message to the Government of India that Nagas are united and will no longer tolerate the dilly dally tactics in resolving the Naga political settlement,” it said.
The ACAUT Nagaland further lauded “all the political parties for taking the solemn decision not to file nominations” and also appealed to “all intending candidates to be wary of the choice they make today, least history judge them harshly. Political parties should not allow the 1998 misadventure to be repeated in 2018.”
Further reiterating its stance of ‘Solution before Election,’ it argued that, “Election will also serve well the interest of the GoI as this will usher in a new Naga state legislature acting as a safety valve for the GoI because no elected member after spending crores of rupees in the election would be willingly work to expedite the Naga peace process or even step down, thus absolving the GoI of any responsibility for sealing a Naga solution.”
“The GoI by conducting election is essentially delaying the Naga peace process and ultimately Nagas will have lost the opportunity to show oneness akin to the plebiscite of 1951,” it added.
The ACAUT Nagaland opined that losing this opportunity to show solidarity with the Naga cause will “perhaps cause irreparable damage to the Naga National Movement, or even end it.”
It also chided BJP Secretary in-charge of Northeast Ram Mahadav’s “Election for Solution” statement saying it leaves “lots of doubt about the seriousness and sincerity on the part of the Government of India.”
It should be clear to all Nagas that the Government of India (GoI) is gauging the will and the resolve of the Naga populace, and the very fact that the negotiation is going on for the last 20 years is because of our division.”
“Therefore, it’s time for Nagas to seriously introspect by overcoming our petty differences and personal interest which will ultimately decide our course of history,” ACAUT Nagaland further appealed.
