Minister for Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum on Sunday said that the Naga people who are naturally talented and gifted in the field of music have the capability of attracting the musical attention of the world. He expounded on the talent of the Naga people who possess the gift and talent to attract International attention to this small but vibrant state of India.

Addressing a gathering at NER Agri Expo Site, 4th Mile, Dimapur during inaugural programme of Hornbill Music Festival, Tongpang said that Nagas can come under the picture of the musical world and with that potentiality, Naga people should take music seriously and not just as a hobby.

With music becoming one of the biggest industries in the world, he believes that Nagas can be propelled into the International musical scene with world-shaking effects. This, he concluded, can be done through a change of perception and action which emphasises on Music as a profession rather than just a hobby. He added a side note that tourists from not just within the country but all over the world will be showing up to attend our Hornbill festival. Therefore, Nagas must present our warmest of hospitality and have them take back memories of fondness.

“Considering the musical potential of our people, the Government of Nagaland has established the Music Task Force which has now been renamed as Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA),” he said and added that the PDA government sought to promote music as a profession.

He said that the TAFMA seeks to promote and encourage Naga musicians and that the Government of Nagaland extends all support and cooperation towards this objective.

Tongpang also lauded the TAFMA and LiveNow Events for organizing the event and providing platform for musicians locally, nationally and globally.
