Nagas of Arunachal appeal to all tribes, civil societies and people

Tirap, August 26 (MExN): The Nagas of Arunachal Pradesh have voiced support for the Naga Hoho and appealed all tribes, civil societies and Naga people to support the Hoho, so as to achieve the final peace accord.

A press statement issued by Gawang Hakhun, President of Arunachal Naga Students Federation and L Wanglat, Convener of Naga Hoho of TCL on August 26 stated that the Naga Hoho was formed by the Naga people “on the foundation of tribes Hoho with an objective to uphold solidarity, rebuild Naga family to facilitate settlement of Naga issue, to protect Naga system and tradition and to promote social, culture, economic and political heritage” on the March 11 and 12, 1998 session at Zunheboto.

They further stated that the Naga Hoho has played an “immense role in resolving conflict situations amongst different factions of the Nagas” and has also played “an important role to expedite peace process between the Government of India and the NSCN.”

The Naga Hoho believed that “all settlement should be inclusive” and “adopted various measures to achieve the goal despite the fact that Naga Hoho was not a party of the peace talk,” it added.

They gave credit to the Naga Hoho for burning ‘midnight lamps’ to ensure all Nagas irrespective of their tribes, council or region are brought into ‘one Naga unity’ and for initiating reconciliation process to unite the 39 Naga tribes.

The Naga Hoho has also initiated peace talks and dialogue with people in the states of Assam and Manipur. They have a proposal to visit Arunachal Pradesh, the statement informed.

Pointing out that the strength of the Naga Hoho is derived from the strength of the tribes Hoho, they encouraged the Naga Hoho tribes to play a meaningful role in strengthening the Hoho, particularly in their effort towards reconciliation without boundary.

“During this crucial period when the final peace accord is the final stage we would urge all tribes of Hoho, civil societies and Naga people to support Naga Hoho so as to achieve the final peace accord,” they stated.

Further, they added that the Nagas of Arunachal would continue to support the Naga Hoho to bring peace and final resolution between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) and 7 NNPGs.
