‘Nagas should come to one platform’

Karaiba Chawang
Lungwa (Mon) | April 12

Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and present Goa Governor, SC Jamir today said that Nagas should have only one agenda before them, that is on how to bring all Nagas to one platform, how to create congenial atmosphere where Nagas can speak freely and to remove fear psychosis.

Also quoting former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Jamir said that India had many things to offer to the Nagas but cannot give peace. It has to come out from the mind and soul of every Naga.

Jamir said that India, while trying to strengthen its relationship with China and all other neighbouring countries, had an open mind towards the Naga problem. “Mother India is inviting all of you to come. So Nagas must come with one mind” Jamir said referring to the Indo-Naga political talks.

Jamir, who reached Lungwa by road in spite of various constraints, addressing the inaugural function of the 2-day Tangnyinn Aoyea festival, said that if Nagas can develop such cultural meetings, gradually, there will be meeting of mind, feeling of oneness, and feeling of brotherhood. He however asserted that these feelings would have to grow from the mind, and that it cannot be imposed.

Jamir, who elusively dwelled most of his speech on Naga unification and reconciliation, said that instead of talking with the Government of India, first it will be wise to create congenial space, where all Nagas can meet to bring about unification.

“I feel your Aoyea Festival should be a role model in this”, said Jamir. He also said that if Nagas can develop feeling of compassion and love no one can destroy them.

Jamir, however, rued that Nagas are unfortunately killing each other, which is the negative aspect of the Nagas. He said, even though he is now the Governor of Goa, he is still a Naga and sincerely feels that Nagas are brothers and sisters of the same family and the same God.

Jamir said that Nagas talk about so much of reconciliation, but it would come only when they change their mind-set.

While asserting that Nagas should not allow the ongoing situation to continue, he made it clear that if Nagas want to solve their political problem they must follow the path of peace.

Jamir also went on to say that violence has no place in the modern world and asserted that Naga will stand if united, but will fall if divided.

“If we continue to fight, we have no future and the future Nagas will blame the present Nagas’, said Jamir, while reiterating that Tangnyinn reconciliation should be the role model for unification of the Naga people.
