The prestigious 8th Classic Award 2006 has been conferred on Nancy Kikon here this afternoon at Hotel Japfu in recognition of her contribution in creativity and practical efforts in enhancing the economic status of Naga women.
Lok Sabha MP W. Wangyuh Konyak handed over the award to the latter, which carries a citation along with Rs.10,000 in cash.
Besides her involvement in various organizations and activities, Nancy has been involved as resource person and speaker in various conferences touching on subjects like economic uplift, women empowerment, home management, self-reliance, self employment and community structure, conflict resolution and peace building etc, covering more than 100 lectures.
She is also management incharge for Lady Bug Toy production Unit, Kohima, presently involved in setting up and managing the unit to motivate girls to sustain building the unit to a full-fledged company. Wife of P Kikon and blessed with three sons and a daughter, Nancy Kikon was born on September 8, 1960.
Wangyuh in his address lauded the Classic Club for rendering commendable services since its inception in 1994. He called upon other clubs across the state to come forward and ‘do something’ for the betterment and progress of the general public.
He also congratulated the recipient Nancy Kikon and wished her all success.
Earlier, K Neibou Sekhose delivered the presidential address while Aching Shaiza and Daisy Mezhur presented special numbers.
Vireize-u Solo compered the function while Rev. Kiezotuo Zhale, senior pastor, Baptist Mission Church, Kohima said invocation prayer.
