Mon (MExN): One-day awareness programme on HIV/AIDS, STI and Drug addiction was conducted at the campus of the 6th NAP camp, Tizit on May 15. The programme was sponsored by DACS, Mon and organized by Shansham Organization and World Vision ADP Mon.
The organizers have expressed their sincere gratitude to Commandant 6th NAP HQ, Dr. Kaffu, the Battalion’s Pastor, Women leaders and colleagues for the logistic support and cooperation towards organizing the programme. They have also expressed their gratitude to District AIDS Control Society, Mon for sponsoring the programme. About 60-70 Jawans, officers and 100-120 spouses participated in the programme held separately on the same day.
According to Dr. Kaffu, the battalion’s doctor, there are many cases of STI prevalence among the jawans and spouses whom he had treated and high number of injecting drug users. Abscess cases are also encountered among the jawans but due to fears of service termination, many jawans try to conceal their status. In addition, jawans stay away from family for longer periods while on duty. All these factors put them into high risk and they are therefore vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Therefore, such programmes will help a lot and should continue ceaselessly, said the doctor.
The officers and doctors present also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Shansham Organization and World Vision for the programme and expressed the hope that they would continue with such programmes in the days to come.
