National Food Security Mission prog introduced

Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture convened an orientation for the Directorate Officers, DAO’s SDAO’s, Research Institutes & Farms on a new programme namely the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) which has been introduced for the first time in the State. The meeting was held on June 12, informed a press release issued by Director of Agriculture & Mission Director, NFSM.

NFSM has been in operation in the country since 2007-08 in a mission mode with the main objective of increasing production of rice, wheat and pulses through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner in identified districts and states.

Of the three crop components under the programme the state has been provided with the NFSM-Rice for implementation during the current Kharif season onwards by involving stakeholders at various levels and through State and district level committees 
An intensive and interactive daylong session was undertaken in order to allow the field officers to orient with the operational guidelines as well as implement the programme this monsoon itself by adopting SRI method and line transplanting system in cluster demonstration approach with technical backstopping/s throughout the state. 

Welcome and keynote addresses, PPP on operational guidelines, implementation mode at districts, vote of thanks etc was delivered by AY Ovung, Director of Agriculture, EH Lotha, Addl. Director Agriculture & Director, SAMETI, I. Panger, Jt. Director, Helie Rupreo, Deputy Director respectively. Altogether 48 officials attended the programme.
