National Integration Tour for Nagaland students commences

A 14-day National Integration Tour (NIT) for 19 students (7 girls and 12 boys) of Nagaland organised by the Indian army, was flagged off by Lt Gen HS Sahi, AVSM, YSM, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps from Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur on September 27. 

The students, aged between 15-22 years and accompanied by two teachers, are from the villages of Kigwema, Kezo-Basa and Chakabama villages. During the tour, the students have been scheduled to meet with the President of India, Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. In addition, they will also be visiting several locations such as the Indian Military Academy, Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, Naga Regimental Centre, Ranikhet among several other places of significance. 

In his address, the GOC laid the emphasis for organising such educational tours as a step towards broadening the students’ understanding of the diversity of India. “We are all the more happy to organise such events so that you get to know what India is all about,” he said. 

Above all else, the ‘national integration tour’ as the name suggests aims to in-still among the students a sense of belonging irrespective of where they come from with the rest of the country, the GOC added. 

In regard to Nagaland, Lt Gen Sahi viewed that, cultural events such as the Hornbill festival plays a significant role in putting the state in the global map along with several untapped potential in the tourism sector. “Nagaland has a special place of pride for every Indian,” he said. 

Due to which, he called upon the youths to be torch bearers in leading the state towards progress and development. 

A significant part of the tour for the students will also be the opportunity to travel in the new Vande Bharat Express while heading from Dehradun to Delhi. 

It was also mentioned that this will be the first time for several students to be travelling outside of the state due to which they shared their enthusiasm at the whole tour.
