‘National right will be better felt through reasoning’

Brig (Retd) S Singnya,
Kedahge Federal Government of Nagaland

Speech on 80th Naga Independence Day Speech on August 14

Beloved Countrymen,

Solemnly, I extend my warm greetings to you all on behalf of the Federal Government of Nagaland being a Kedahge and thanking God Almighty for the privilege to address on this 80th Independence Day of our Nation and for his eternal grace upon our Nation.

By taking excellent privilege, I pay my humble homage to all patriots who have sacrificed their precious lives and survived our Nation. And I express again my deep gratitude to all patriots who are continuing to serve our Nation for they have undergone and safeguarded the right of our people as a nation.

As I am privileged, I would like to stress my message on the past historical verity of our Nation, we are uniquely known us “NAGAS” among the peoples in the world and the land which belongs to us is called “NAGALAND” we have been Independent since our forefathers discovered this land of ours. We had our owned birth-right independence.

Therefore, our peoples constituted “Naga National Council” (NNC) in 1946 to represent the Nagas and defend our sovereignty and freedom as a Nation. As a result our peoples declared “Naga Independence” in affirmation on 14th August 1947 under the banner of NNC made it known to the world. Wherefore we consecutively marked/mark this in-corruptible auspicious day of our Nation. It is our upright pillar and a true victory and we shall continue to mark it with our posterity in the years to come.

Thus Nagaland become a Republic on 22nd March 1956 when Federal Government of Nagaland was established resulting from the convening of the first Tatar Hoho by the Naga National Council which brought together the free Nagas, represented by the Hongki Government and erstwhile Naga Hill District, represented by Naga National Council with the National mandate of 1951 immutably entrusted to them and acknowledging that the Almighty God is the Supreme sovereign over this world and authority of the people on the territory as a sacred trust from God. Our leaders established our National institution based on the principles and ideals of Democracy, Justice, Liberty and Fraternity and instituted the republic on the concepts of the Federal system of Governance. The historic declaration of the Naga Independence on 14th August 1947 and the plebiscite of 16th May 1951 were the foundations which shaped the political course of our people.

At this occasion I express my sincere thanks to all the National workers, the public and the various Civil Society Organizations, the Churches, and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) who shared the National yoke to this day. My thanks also go to each and every individual who are coming forward for peace, Unity and National solidarity.

Under the new world order where truth and reason prevail, I am certain that our National right will be better felt through reasoning under the protection and guidance of our Lord God. Let us make our land worthy of a land for Christ.
