The National Voters Day was observed the 8th edition of the National Voters’ Day 2018 across different districts and sub division in Nagaland on January 25 under the theme ‘Accessible Elections.’ During the event, prizes were also distributed to winners of different completion including Street Play, Slogan Writing, Easy Writing and Quiz, Art and Painting etc. Best BLO Awards were also given away during the function.
Kiphire: The National Voter’s Day was observed at Kiphire with Kumar Ramnikant IAS, ADC & ERO Kiphire as chief guest which was attended by the officers, civil societies and new voters at the conference hall of the DC. The chief guest said, “With the celebration of Voters Day we are getting a sense of empowerment and pride, but with great power comes great responsibility.” Calling upon the gathering to be more reasonable and responsible he said, “Kiphire being one of the most backward district in the country, each citizens has the role to play to bring up this district as the best district in the country.” He exhorted the youths to recommit to exercise the Right to Vote which is the foundation day of the ECI. It was informed that one machine would be added this time to cross check the voting. Miss USSC 2011 Litila, who also spoke on the day, appealed to be the trend setter by exercising their franchise in the right way and casting ones vote for change. People with Differently Abled Person presented special song, while the entire gathering read out the pledge and appended with their signature.
Mon: National Voters’ Day was celebrated at District Executive Hall, Mon DC Office Complex. Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS while addressing the gathering, exhorted the young voters to exercise their franchise responsibly. He mentioned that the young and future voters are a very important focus group of the Election Commission of India (ECI). The National Voter’s Day 2018 is being celebrated with the theme ‘Accessibly Elections’ which underscores the emphasis laid by ECI on ensuring participation of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in the election process. Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) including camps are to be made available at each of the polling stations according to the ECI mandate. Lemei Konyak, District Icon for Mon during her speech encouraged youngsters to get registered in the electoral roll as and when they reach the age of 18 years. Yanithung, EAC (Sadar) Mon, read the Voters’ Pledge. Electoral Literacy Club was also launched during the occasion. Demonstration of EVM/VVPAT to PwD & newly enrolled electors was also held after the function.
TUENSANG: The 8th National Voters’ Day held at CKS Hall, Tuensang where MP Nokshang, President, CKS was the chief guest. L. Jamithung Lotha who delivered the welcome address, read out the message of the Chief Election Commissioner of India. Pakon Phom, SDO (C) initiated to administer Voters’ Pledge while Tuensang District Icon, Moasenla exhorted the gathering to educate the young voters on free and fair election and their voting rights along with clean election campaign. The chief guest in his speech deliberated on democracy and the rights given to the citizens of the country. Focusing on the voters with disabilities, he said that we should render our support to them so that they enjoy their rights in the election process. The winners of Youth Voters Festival were also awarded.
PEREN: The 8th National Voters' Day was celebrated at Peren with Smita Sarangi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Peren as the chief guest. The chief guest impressed upon the gathering that participating in the election processes and voting should be taken as a privilege. She also urged the gathering to take the privilege to elect their leaders. Meanwhile, she requested the BLOs to motivate and encourage young voters to enroll more vigorously. She pointed out that the National Voters' Day is targeted towards the young voters. Speeches were delivered by Best BLO and PwD (Persons with disabilities) Keyichitube enthralled the gathering with a special song.
WOKHA: Wokha observed the 8th National Voters’ Day at DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, addressing the function readout the message from Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland. A total of 203 differently abled persons have been identified in 62 polling stations where, minimum basic facilities will be arranged to encourage them to take part in the election process, he said. Other SVEEP campaigns and programmes will also be conducted aimed at targeting the youths to get them engaged in the election process, he added. ADC and Electoral Registration Officer, Wokha, Nokchasashi presented the Keynote address. While Friends United Network (FUN) presented the theme song.
DIMAPUR: The 8th National Voters’ Day was observed at the Conference Hall of the Commissioner of Taxes, Dimapur with DC & District Election Officer, Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patil, IAS, as chief guest. Addressing the programme attended by government officials, BLOs, representatives of different parties and young voters, the DC said that election is an important requisite of democracy. Expressing concern over the poor road condition and power, he said that there are many good houses yet the surrounding is also equally important. Calling on the youngsters to participate in fair and clean election, and choose the right person, Kumar said blogging in social media alone will not help bring positive changes in the society. Speaking on the theme the DC informed the gathering that all necessary arrangements are being made for all eligible voters to be able to exercise their right in the forthcoming election. District Icon, Zehovire Avi Kechu in her speech lamented that the state is lacking behind in many things. She however said that there is a ray of hope if people choose the right person in the forthcoming election. Other highlights of the programme included presentation of award to Booth Level Officers, Felicitation of New Voters, Administering of Voters Pledge and official launching of Electoral Literacy Club by chief guest.
MOKOKCHUNG: The 8th National Voters’ Day 2018 was observed at Town Hall, Mokokchung where the newly enrolled voters were felicitated by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal. Delivering a short speech, DC and ERO, Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal said the concept of celebrating Voters’ day is to think what our rights are. Message from Chief Election Commissioner was read out by the chairperson, EAC (HQ), Fithu Lichui. Welcome address was delivered by ADC and ERO, Mokokchung, W. Manpai Phom. A special number was presented by Apang Aier while, vote of thanks was proposed by EAC (HQ), Daniel Angami. In the programme DC & DEO, Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal also administered the voter’s pledge.
PHEK: The National Voters’ Day was observed at DPDB Conference Hall, Phek. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Phek, Shavanas C. IAS, graced the occasion as the chief guest. To vote is your right, so don’t surrender your vote, and exercise your right for a better tomorrow, said Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Phek, Shavanas C. IAS in his speech. EAC and Assistant Election Officer, Selemla S. Sangtam chaired the programme. ADC and ERO, Phek, K. Mhathung Tsanlao highlighted on the significance of the National Voters’ Day. Tsanglao in his speech maintained that the day is observed to encourage the youngsters especially those 18 and 19 years old to participate in the political process. “Be responsible today, claim a better tomorrow; choose clean election, vote and be counted, together we can make it happen” quoted Phek District SVEEP Icon, Muluvesalu Keyho speaking at the programme. The DC and DEO later administered the NVD pledge. EPIC/Badge of Millennium voters were also distributed at the programme.
Longleng: In Longleng the National Voters’ Day was observed with Deputy Commissioner & DEO Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam as the chief guest at DC’s conference hall. The Dc urged all concern to disseminate the information back to their community to change the old attitude. Congratulating the young voters, he encouraged them to exercise their voting rights with honesty, sincerity and responsibility. The DC also announced that for Clean Election state the ECI will deploy many advance systems like live telecasting of polling stations in the state and asserted that the state will face a different election unlike the previous elections. The DC also administered the pledge to the gathering officers, NGOs, BLOs and the newly enrolled young voters. Earlier, the ADC/RO & SVEEP Nodal Officer Longleng Temsuwati Longkumer felicitated the new voters and spoke on the significances of the day while the Pastor LTBC Rev.
