1. The unfortunate incident at Wungram Colony, Dimapur where over 50 houses were set aflame and destroyed and over 250 residents displaced is not a happy note for every human being. It needs the strongest condemnation.
It is very unfortunate that such unwarranted incidents should happen at such a crucial juncture with many political, social and economical implications when the Indo-Naga Peace Talk is in full swing.
Every Naga should realise that this is not the right time for them to quarrel and take a pick at one another nor should such incidents be allowed to happen in any case. We may well remember that “a divided house cannot stand.”
By any means, by hook or by crook, it is the bounden duty of every right thinking Nagas to strive ever so doggedly for unity, integration, etc. to achieve our goal.
2. Reflecting on the Wungram incident in reality, it is not a big deal to begin with because the issue is the outcome of petty, senseless, thoughtless action of some individuals. The issue could have best been settled at the individual level had both the parties resorted to constructive means. They may belong to Sumis, the Tangkhuls, etc. Yet, their wrong deeds cannot be the reason for the aftermath actions. Both the parties are mixing issues (individual) with emotions that has almost taken the line of communalism. Goof! Let’s get over it! The issue has become like a dog’s breakfast.
The two particular tribes cannot harp on at the expense of the whole Nagas or to be more specific, on their respective community. An individual’s wrong deed(s) cannot be compensated by the community!
3. It’s amazing to learn that the DAN government’s cabinet meeting fails to come up with any statement in spite of the gravity of the situation. It is our sincere appeal to the DAN govt. to take up immediate measure to diffuse the situation and remedy the displaced for peace and normalcy to prevail.
4. It’s heartening to learn that Independent Naga MLAs of Manipur, other civil societies, NGOs, etc. are harping for defusing the tensions through various means.
The Naga Watch Dog Organisation (NAW@DO) bears the solidarity with the unfortunate victims and to the harbingers of peace and unity.
It is the strong opinion/suggestion of the organisation that justice be delivered to the perpetrator(s) by invoking the Naga customary law with no further delay while mending of wounds gets underway, This is not a dog eat dog drama for the Nagas.
It is the humble appeal of this organisation to all the Nagas not to be driven away by cheap ‘-ist’, ‘-ism’, etc. which will be a stepping stone for the opposing enemy forces both from within and outside.
