NBSE revises Science stream eligibility

Kohima, April 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has revised its eligibility criteria for admission to the Science stream in Class XI, allowing students who have qualified in either Mathematics A or Mathematics B at the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination to pursue Science studies, effective from the 2026-27 academic session.

Previously, only students who had qualified in Mathematics A were eligible for the Science stream.

Under the revised criteria, a student seeking admission to the Science stream must obtain qualifying grades in Mathematics — either A or B — and Science at the Class X HSLC examination, the Board said in a notification issued by Secretary and Chairperson (Additional Charge) Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, dated April 20 and uploaded on the NBSE website.  The revised provision will also apply to migrating students, the Board said.

Heads of institutions have been directed to ensure that students from a Mathematics B background undergo counselling prior to admission, in view of the rigorous nature of the Class XI Mathematics curriculum. All admissions for the 2026-27 session and onwards are to be processed strictly in accordance with the revised criteria, the NBSE said. The revision was approved by the Governing Body of the Board and amends the Management of Examinations guidelines under the Eligibility of Students section on page 3.
