NCA sends official to support GM Gukesh in World Chess Championship

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) has made a significant step in supporting its representatives on the international stage by sending its Vice President, Mohokiya Apon, to Singapore. Apon will be present to support Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju in the ongoing World Chess Championship.

The championship, which began on November 25 will run until December 15. It features a high-stakes match between the reigning World Champion, Ding Liren of China, and the Challenger, Gukesh Dommaraju.

This move marks a historic moment for the Nagaland Chess Association, as it is the first time an official has been sent abroad to witness and participate in a World Chess Championship. Indian sports federations are commonly seen sending officials to international competitions such as the Olympics and Asian Games, but this is a notable achievement for the NCA.

Alongside Apon, more than 40 officials from the All India Chess Federation have traveled to Singapore to provide support for Gukesh Dommaraju throughout his competition against Ding Liren. While some officials are set to return after tomorrow’s match, others will remain until the conclusion of the championship.
